Tapawingo Place Features

This 1913 log home, renovated recently, is completely self-sufficient.  It features a fully equipped kitchen with full stove, refrigerator and microwave. The bathroom has a shower stall, toilet and sink with vanity. (towels not supplied)

The comfortable living room boasts a Muskoka Stone fireplace with gas insert, satellite TV and VCR, and a library with many, many old books.

There are two bedrooms, one overlooking the lake with a queen size bed, and the other with a twin and one 3/4 size bed. There is a screened porch and a large sun room with dining table both overlooking Oxtongue Lake

A Propane BBQ is provided for outdoor cooking and a canoe is available for those who wish to quietly explore the area by water.

A one minute walk across Highway 60 takes you to Helsel’s General Store for groceries, gas, video rentals, bait, souvenirs, pay phone.


Area Attractions

Algonquin Park 9 miles (13 km)
A “Must See” is the Visitor’s Centre (43 km).

Also of interest is the Logging Museum (53 km), with a 2 km historical display. The park has nature programs for children and adults, walking and bicycle trails, bike rentals, picnic sites, canoe instructions, and public “Wolf Howls” weekly during August.

Ragged Falls 2 miles (3km)

With access by water or trail, the rocks and the top of the falls are a favourite picnic site.

Oxtongue Rapids Park 2.5 miles (4 km)

Explore the series of rapids and rock cuts along the Oxtongue River or take the bridge to a picnic site and walking trail.

Dwight 5 miles (8 km)

This nearby town is handy if you need a, liquor store, library, marine supplies,, or wonderful, fresh baked goods from Henrietta’s Pine Bake Shop or the Wild Flour Bake Shop.

Dorset 15 miles (25 km)

Some sites of interest include Robinson’s General Store, voted best general store in Canada, and the Scenic tower which boasts a breathtaking view
(formerly used as a fire lookout tower).

Huntsville 20 miles (32 km)

Huntsville has larger city amenities such as hospital, churches, theatre, and shopping malls.
